Taper's notes: The Burton Cummings (Walker Theatre) was built in 1907 as a performing arts stage. In the 40’s it was turned into a movie theatre with many “upgrades” made to make it more like a cinema and less like a theatre. In the early 90’s it was resurrected as a live music venue by a not-for-profit organization. Between 1991 and 2014 it was run by this organization on a shoe sting budget. As such the venue was usable and definitely grand to look at and be in however somewhat run down and sometime corners cut. I believe the venue housed and inhouse PA, and FOH sound guy so as such it was notorious for having sketchy sound when it comes to rock concerts. Sometime one area can sound perfect, the next show the sound is awful in the same area.
I won 6th row centre floor tickets from a local radio station days before the show. Not necessarily an optimum location to tape the world’s “loudest band”, but I was not going to not tape it. After the shift of concert goers once the lights went down, I was still 6th row but directly lined up with Lemmy. From what I recall for being 6th row I had quite a bit of space around me.
I believe in anticipation of it being overly loud I place the microphones on my shoulders facing to the side, rather than directly to the stage. I was using Sound Professional microphones, a SP battery Box (don’t recall if it has a roll off or not) and a Edirol HR9. If I was using the battery box I would have had it in the line in not the microphone input. I do not recall anything about the microphones other than what I have stated.
